GBES (Green Building Education Services) host annual sustainability challenge event, and you can watch these videos here.
Day 1:
Video 1: Top Trends in Sustainable Buildings
Charlie Cichetti is joined by GBH Communications Director Brian Bollinger to level-set on four top trends in sustainable buildings. From decarbonization and ESG to climate action and adaptive reuse of buildings, these trends are underpinned by data-driven and AI-driven solutions.
Video 2: Green Building Rating System
Charlie Cichetti takes us through the key updates to the most popular green building rating systems. You’ll get an overview of LEED, WELL, Fitwel, GRESB, and BREEAM. What’s more, you’ll learn about how the Living Building Challenge and others are setting a high bar on regenerative design.
Video 3: LEED v5 updates
Melissa Baker, Senior Vice President of USGBC, share the future of LEED and LEED v5. You can see the summary of the talk below:
LEED v.5 has been working hard by a group of volunteers to ensure the future standard can represent at the building, city, and community levels. The primary focus of LEED version 5 is to emphasize decarbonization.
Decarbonization at all scales includes reducing and eliminating on-site combustion, ensuring the building has a lower peak heating and cooling load, or expanding the grids-harmonization.
Approach decarbonization at the manufacturing scale, such as using electric vehicles, implementing micro-mobility, and replacing refrigerants with low global warming potential.
Utilize new tools and technology to allow projects to collect and analyze data for building and city portfolios. For the new construction, aim to use low carbon materials; for the existing buildings, ensure decarbonization, higher performance, and reporting milestones periodically.
